Champ

I've been lucky to own four widely different dogs. The most recent is

Champ

champ

He came from Battersea Dogs' Home (you can find them here) in December 2005. He's five years old, was called "Prince" at Battersea and before that was (I believe) a racing greyhound called Alfa Focus, probably born and certainly first raced in Ireland. Part of his racing record and his pedigree. He also raced and won in Peterborough, Nottingham and Romford, before retiring to Norfolk, from where he went to Battersea because his owners didn't have enough time for him.

Contary to popular perception, greyhounds, including ex-racers, make excellent pets, needing only a minimum of two 20-minute walks a day, spending most of the rest of the time sleeping, and often being quite happy to be left on their own. They are also very soppy dogs, loving a good cuddle.

It is early days as I write, but thus far Champ is chilled, has few bad habits (although does fancy sleeping on my bed given half a chance - had to fix the lock on the bedroom door). He even has some degree of recall, although it will be a long time, if ever, before I try it in Regent's Park.

If you're thinking about rehoming a greyhound there's a lot more information on the links on the left.
